Vasectomy
A vasectomy can be performed under local or general anaesthesia
Vasectomy is the best form of male contraception. It involves a surgical procedure during which your urologist identifies and ties off the vas deferens, which normally transports sperm from the testicles to your penis. A vasectomy can be performed under local or general anaesthesia, usually as a day procedure.
Sperm can survive up to 76 days and we recommend a semen analysis at 3 months to ensure there are no live sperm detected in the semen. During this period, you should continue using other forms of contraception.
No-scalpel technique:
The surgery is performed via a single 5mm puncture into the scrotum, using a specialised instrument. We use a combination of transection and excision of the vas deferens, cauterising the lumen of the one end and fascial interposition (placing tissue in between the two ends) to ensure the best surgical outcomes.
1 day, usually performed as a day theatre procedure
